A 2000W pure sine wave inverter may sound to be a complex piece of off road equipment. However, the task it performs is relatively straightforward and it can make life much easier when living or travelling off-road.
The Need for a Pure Sine Wave Inverter
Off-road living means being away from the services you accept as normal when at home. That includes a stable domestic power supply that allows you to run all your gadgets and other electrical equipment. When you’re away from home, however, you either need to manage without or take other actions to achieve your personal required levels of comfort.
How a 2000w Pure Sine Wave Inverter Can Make Life Easier
The domestic mains electricity supply provides power at 230 volts AC (Yes this is now the Australian voltage standard, not 240V) and all equipment intended for use in the home is designed for that voltage output. Caravans, camp sites and motor homes, on the other hand, deliver electricity at a much lower 12 volts and so using household electrical equipment directly on a 12v setup just doesn’t work.
One answer is to use equipment that is specifically designed for use on 12 volt systems. However, these will be much less efficient due to the lower levels of power they consume and may not do the job you require of them (think kettle, toaster etc with high power needs).
A better alternative is to use a 2000W pure sine wave inverter that takes power from a 12 volt battery and converts it into 230 volt power that is identical to the normal mains supply. You can therefore use it to power any normal domestic or business appliances such as laptops, air conditioners, kettles, microwaves, coffee machines and more.
This is a far better solution than a modified wave inverter that is less expensive and creates something resembling a pure sine wave but which can damage sensitive equipment, produces some interference and is not compatible for all equipment. It’s also preferable to an AC generator that can be noisy, smelly and requires fuel. Modified sine wave is suitable for simple devices with no sensitive electronics like a kettle or toaster.
Getting the Best 2000w Pure Sine Wave Inverter
Although buying an inverter isn’t a major challenge, you should follow a few basic principles to select the most suitable one:
- If you’re likely to use the inverter a lot — every day or for long periods — get one that’s big enough and sufficiently durable for the job. Small inverters may be suitable for infrequent and light use, such as recharging mobile devices or cordless tools, but larger inverters will have more conversion power and may even allow you to run multiple devices simultaneously.
- Get one that has sufficient wattage to support all the devices you want to connect. Add up the wattage that each one will consume (30-50 watts for a typical caravan television, for example) and increase the total by 20% to be safe. Be sure to allow for peak power demand although a 2000W pure sine wave inverter will be enough for most needs.
- Look for an inverter with a high efficiency rating (generally at least 85-90%) since this will draw less battery current and run cooler.
- Ensure your 2000W pure sine wave inverter has plenty of safety features to prevent problems. These features include protection if voltage is above or below the expected range and the ability to operate in harsh conditions that may exist off-road.

What will it run?
Our AllSpark 2000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter will run continuously at 2000 watts unlike some cheap brands that claim they can, but struggle to provide half that output.
Any 240v device that you can plug in at home will run on this Inverter.

Will this run my microwave?
YES - The AllSpark 2000/4000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter will run at 2000w continuous output until the battery goes flat and 4000w as a startup wattage.
Microwaves have 2 key numbers to take into account - the watts of cooking power, eg. many caravan microwaves are 800W, and the total input power, which is the total power that the microwave consumes from your battery.
Whilst it may have 800W of cooking power, it still uses more power to spin the turn table, run the control panel, internal light and fan etc, which makes up the rest of the power consumption. So before sizing an inverter, you need to check the input power (not the cooking watts) which is more likely 1200w for a 800w cooking power model.
For many microwaves there is 30-50% more to get to the input power above the cooking power. You may need to check your manual or online for the full specifications of your microwave.
Will my existing battery power this Inverter?
Simple answer is - many will but not all. A 2000 watt inverter is a very high power device for a 12v system. It's the largest inverter we recommend running on 12v unless you have very large battery banks (over 300ah of Lithium Iron Phosphate or 450ah of AGM). 2000 watts at 12v is 166 Amps. It requires a minimum of 2 B&S cable with 175A circuit breaker or midi/mega fuse under 1m long or 0 B&S cables if over 1m in length to avoid voltage drop. A single AllSpark LiFePO4 battery will power this inverter by itself. Most LiFePO4 batteries on the market need 2 or more batteries in parallel to provide this much power. Premium AGM batteries like Fullriver 120ah will provide sufficient power but only give you about 20 mins runtime at full power. Cheaper AGM batteries may struggle to provide sufficient power and will suffer from Voltage sag and may initiate the low voltage protection mode of the inverter. In this case, you need 2 batteries in parallel or a single AllSpark LiFePO4. The amount of storage you need comes down to how long you want to run for.
Offroad Living provide a minimum full 12 months Manufacturer’s Warranty on all products we sell from the date original date of purchase (unless otherwise specified in the product listing). In the case of the AllSpark Inverter Generators, this is 12 months or 600 hours, whichever occurs first. We warrant that our goods will be free of faults during this time, are manufactured of an acceptable quality, have been accurately described in the selling advertisements and that spare parts and repair facilities will be available for a reasonable period after sale of this product. These products are made for personal/domestic use only and are not supplied, design or sold as suitable to fit for purpose for Commercial use. This Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from mis-use, water/moisture ingress, poor maintenance, neglect, natural disasters, war, terrorism or operation of the product in a manner outside of that specified in the user manual. This warranty will be considered void if the user modifies, tampers with or alters the unit in anyway. In the event of a defect and before returning the product for warranty, the buyer must contact Offroad Living first. We will run through a series of trouble shooting and fault finding checks to determine the fault or defect first. We may request photos/videos of the problem be sent to us electronically by email. If it cannot be resolved, we may request the product be returned to us for warranty inspection. If it is a warranty issue we will organise the return portage costs, if it is unclear we may ask that you organise the return of the item, and if it is found to be a warranty issue, we will refund the full postage cost. As part of our “Dead on Arrival” guarantee, should a product be found to be defective or faulty due to manufacturing defects during the first 30 days, we will promptly repair or replace the goods or supply a full refund of the purchase price. This choice is at the Buyer’s discretion during that first 30 days. After the first 30 days, the decision to repair, replace or provide a refund during the warranty period is at the sole discretion of Offroad Living. Any repair or replacement products or parts supplied by Offroad Living will be subject to the remaining time of the original 12 month Warranty period.
This Warranty does not exclude the consumer guarantees under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA). Should we supply you with goods that fail to meet one or more of the consumer guarantees, you are entitled to a remedy – either repair, replacement or refund as required by law.
