What Circuit Protection & Cable Size Do I Need For A DCDC Charger?
Any device that takes power from a battery must have circuit protection on the positive connection to the battery. The circuit protection protects the cable from excess current being drawn, and protects the entire system from a short circuit event in the case of a damaged cable.
Failure to install appropriate circuit protection that is rated higher than the current draw of the appliance, but is lower than the rating of the cable, may result in damaged components, melted cables, or (worse) a fire event that could destroy a vehicle.
The table below outlines the required circuit protection and appropriate cable size for both current carrying capacity and minimal voltage drop (under 3%) for each DCDC model.
12 Volt Systems allow you to travel off grid and enjoy time doing the things you love - they are, essentially, an investment in you and your family. Making little changes can improve the efficiency of your system...
We come across this question in varying forms about a dozen times a week on social media groups. To determine your best power options when you are off grid, you first need to consider a number of factors.
This is a comment we hear often. What if I was to tell you that while you think you might be paying a dollar a watt, chances are, you’re not. There are a lot of panels being sold online that have their power listed at equal or less than a dollar a watt, people think they’re getting a great deal, unfortunately I have yet to find one where the numbers make sense.
So you've bought yourself a panel. You've done the research and made sure it is actually the number of watts stated and not some fabrication by the manufacturer. That's it right? Well...unfortunately not. There is more to solar performance than just the panel.
We get asked this question a lot. If you have a generator, sure you can run your air conditioner. But if you're like us and prefer not to have the constant hum in the background, then the answer is...
Your starter battery is not designed to be used to run a fridge or other auxiliary loads, so a second deep cycle battery is a must. What type of battery...
"I've seen some really cheap SunPower Flexible Solar Panels, what's the difference between theirs and yours?"
SunPower are global leaders in solar technology, and their name is synonymous with quality and reliability. Because of this, some retailers use their name unscrupulously.
